Historic Deadwood-Lead Arts CouncilALL SCHOOL REUNION ART EXHIBITThe Historic Deadwood Lead Arts Council will be sponsoring an “Alumni Art Show” during the Lead Deadwood All School reunion the first week of July. The Arts Council is looking for artwork created by Lead/Deadwood High School alumni and St. Patrick’s High School. It can be in any medium including paintings, drawings, pottery, wood working, sewing/quilting, stained glass, jewelry, sculpting, music cd’s, etc; and, can be something created many years ago or something newly created. The exhibit will be held during the all school reunion the first week of July at the Historic Deadwood Lead Arts Council gallery which is located upstairs at the Historic Homestake Opera House (309 W. Main in Lead). If you would like to display your work or know any alumni who has made or makes great artwork, give the Historic Deadwood Lead Arts Council a call at 584-1461. First place winners received a $100 prize, second place winners received a $50 gift certificate from Focus West Gallery in Spearfish, and third place winners will receive a copy of Les Voorhis’ book on Spearfish Canyon or Bear Butte. Special thanks to Dennes Barrett who donated is $100 prize back to the Arts Council for future programming. Dennes’ generosity is most appreciated! HDLAC would also like to thank all those who entered their photographs and shared them with the public. Special thanks to the judges Les Voorhis, Steve Babbit and Jan Humphrey. Thirty-two entries were received and the contest was considered a huge success. The entries included everything from deer, elk, turkeys, snakes, moths, birds, snails, fish, etc. HDLAC and the Prairie Hills Audubon Society encourage residents to keep taking pictures as plans are already underway to sponsor the contest again. The photos above show Dennes Barrett’s “Line-Up” and Kathy Kelley’s “Turkey Strut.” The 32 entries are on display at the HDLAC gallery at 309 W. Main in Lead (above the Historic Homestake Opera House), the exhibit will remain until the end of February. For more information, please call 584-1461.
